MobileMax2
- Product
- This dome-shaped embedded device for
two-way wireless and satellite communication is used in the trucking industry.
It incorporates position tracking, messaging to and from the driver
as well as integration with the truck engine controller. Additional capabilities include the ability to
collect data on a portable device incorporating a scanner, then dock it for synchronization and
transmission of acquired data.
The MobileMax2 provides multimode (Ardis two-way terrestrial network and Inmarsat-C satellite network) communications as well
as GPS, allowing the driver to keep in touch with the dispatcher both out on the open road and on city streets. It also
keeps track of how many miles are driven in each state, simplifying calculation of road use taxes for the trucking firm.

- What we provided
We managed the development of this multimode communications device for Motient.
We built them a software
development team, redesigned major software components to increase reliability,
and added the ability to communicate and synchronize data with a large range of
handheld devices so the driver could scan packages in the back of the truck, then transmit the
scanned data back to the dispatcher.
